You can also use port #1 to interchange portable drives. I also leave my PC on (but let the screen turn off) because I have the extra external drive mounted to my Shield that carries 99% of my movies and big-file shows (to leave room for more DVR - with Plex Pass (Lifetime was $74 on sale when I bought it) and HDHomerun 4K-Flex Quatro antenna). It even appears to stay asleep when Plex is utilize/watched off-site. It will automatically do so when not in use. Android works much better and the Shield is designed to enter deep sleep. You will actually want the Shield to NOT power down each time the TV power state changes. There is also a third way to mount the drive, but that is advanced. This is also necessary for ADB debugging, which must be done in USB port#1, which is why the Install above went into port #2. You might want to pick up a USB-A Male to USB-A Male cable should you want to transfer files over the wire just like you would any other Android machine. It will even add both "Movie" folder locations into one "Movies" category shown on Plex. The Shield Pro will use that drive (or share folder you selected) all the same. Now back on the Shield Pro, mount the now shared drive to the Shield while the drive is physically connected to your PC. Next, leave your current drive on your PC where it is and tell Windows to allow sharing. Move what you can to the external drive that is now installed as Internal Storage. You MUST have a dedicated drive installed as Internal Storage that will live in the machine 24/7 because you will want to install more than 16gb eventually. I used a 5TB Seagate hard drive from Costco. Get a Shield TV Pro (over the Tube), and a new Hard drive to be installed as dedicated, Internal storage into port #2 (closest to HDMI).
